Why Your Desk Should be in a Command Position

Placing your desk, bed, or other furniture in the command position is an important principle of Feng Shui. The command position refers to the placement of your desk in a way that allows you to have a clear view of the room and the entrance. An example of this is to have your desk be attached have one side attached to a solid wall with visibility of your door.

Here are some reasons why it is recommended to position your desk in the command position:

  1. Creates a sense of empowerment: The command position symbolizes a position of power and authority. When you can see the entrance of the room from your desk, you are metaphorically in command of your space. This positioning promotes a sense of empowerment and helps you feel more in control of your work environment.

  2. Security and protection: By facing the entrance, you have a clear view of anyone entering the room. This positioning allows you to be more aware of your surroundings and promotes a sense of security. It helps you feel protected and reduces the potential for surprises, startles, or unexpected disruptions.

  3. Better energy flow: From a feng shui perspective, the command position allows for better energy flow in the space. It is believed that positive energy, or chi, enters through the entrance and flows freely when it is not obstructed. By positioning yourself in the command position, you are aligning with the natural energy flow and allowing it to circulate around you.

In addition to having your desk in a command position for protection, empowerment, and energy flow, it is great for manifesting new clients and facilitating open communication. When you are facing your door, you are energetically open to new clients walking through your door.

This desk placement would be perfect for your reception desk, your office desk, and your home office desk.

While the command position is often recommended, every space is unique, and practical considerations may influence desk placement. Ultimately, you want to find a position that makes you feel comfortable, focused, and in control of your workspace. You can also place a mirror above your desk if you are not able to position it in a command position.
